Kids Say The Darndest Things

Do you remember that show with Bill Cosby? It used to be one the shows my families would watch together when I was younger. And let me tell you, after working as a preschool teacher they really do say the funniest things. I don't even know if I really think about them as children anymore because the things that come out of their mouths sometimes are way beyond what you think a toddler would or should be saying. As a case-in-point, my little four-year-old cousin is too funny. We were sitting at dinner on Sunday and she just keeps talking about the most random things while I'm having conversation with her mom.

Me: Lilly, this has nothing to do with Netflix or eating your food. Why aren't you eating your food?
Lilly: *smiles* Because I like talking.

I couldn't even be mad at that answer because that's something I would have said, and probably did, when I was her age. But the best part of the conversation came about five minutes later.

Me: Eat your food! Why won't you eat?
Lilly: Because I'm tired.
Me: Ok, well tired people don't eat strawberry shortcake (a.k.a. the Wegman's tart on the counter she had been eyeballing) because they're too tired.
Lilly: I didn't say I was tired.
Me: Yes you did. You said you weren't eating because you're tired.
Lilly: Umm...No, I didn't say tired. I said tire...wheel. Tire wheel. I'm not tired.

All I could do was laugh. 1) She was lying like I didn't hear the words just come out of her mouth 30 seconds before. 2) I don't even know how she came up with a good word association that fast.

Is It Too Late To Start The Year?

What's that you say? I'm a month late. January is almost over. Yes, yes I know, but allow me to explain. This year started out as a total bust. It went down without ever having the chance to be up. Contrary to what that may imply for some, I'm determined to bring it back. This is the year of the dragon. And guess who just happens to be a dragon? That's right, me! So while you all are starting to forget/ quitting your new year's resolutions, this dragon is just getting hers all together. Let's go back about a year. 2011 is what I'm now referring to as the "transition period." It marked a lot of changes for me. I started a new job, watched friends get married & pregnant, interviewed for a MAJOR dream job (and didn't get said job), scaled back on work that I love, took some design classes, switched work out routines (also major), traveled, and reached year goals. The year didn't turn out exactly how I planned, and, honestly, I'm not even sure how I'd hoped it would turn out anymore. I do know that it turned out how I needed it to. All the things that happened throughout the year good and bad, I accepted them and learned from them. I made big changes to lead my life in the way I wanted it to go and I plan on continuing that through the new year. So as I finish this cliched new year post, I'm not going to give you my resolutions (yet) or proclaim this to be "the year of GG." (I know I already said it's the year of the dragon, but that's according to the chinese new year. Take it up with them. I just happen to fit the description.) In fact, I will only claim it to be transition year, part 2.

Inspiration Of A Shoe Addict

Sorry for the lack of blogging. I've neglected this page the last couple of weeks. I'm over at Screen Time, too, if you miss me or just want to catch up on some TV shows or new trailers. My room has become rather neglected, too. It's in serious need of some spring cleaning. As I was looking at my shoes the other day I noticed a sad trend. Almost all of my shoes are either black or gray. There really isn't much variety, color-wise. In fact, my whole wardrobe could use a little color!

Here's some shoe inspiration that's left me drooling. I know I've included black shoes in here, but I think it's fair to say that these are all a must. Look at the lucite turquoise heel on those Charlotte Olympia shoes and the barely there geometric shape of the Andreia Chaves. A MUST! Agreed? I wish my shoe closet looked like the ones below. Instead it looks like this....

It's slightly more impressive in person. By impressive, I mean cuter.

Today is National Record Store Day. I was hoping to drive down to Richmond, walk around Carytown, go to some record stores, and visit my favorites RVA shops, but that didn't happen. I'm actually glad I didn't go because this dreadful weather would have totally ruined it for me. So instead I'm staying indoors and spinning some of my favorite vinyls already in my collection.

You know how I said that I couldn't help but dance for the last Flashback Friday post? Well, really it's songs like these that I can't help dancing to. I love it! Breakbot, a french DJ/producer named Thibaut Berland, makes me want to pull a dancing santa, but that's a post for Christmas-time.

Ed Banger Records has definitely provided me with a good start to my summer soundtrack. Not only is the song good, but the video is amazing! It was directed by Irina Dakeva, who made over 2000 aquarelle images (a.k.a. watercolor paintings), a process that took over three months, to create the video.

I've been so lazy today due to the gloomy weather outside. Total lack of inspiration. Then this song popped into my head.

I guess you could say I'm a preschool teacher, kind of. One of my, and the kids, favorite parts of class is when we dance. I hate those boring "good morning," "head, shoulders, knees, and toes" CDs. It's seriously the most boring, annoying, pain-inducing music and the kids don't even pay attention to it. I prefer the more upbeat stuff you can dance to. This song is on my go-to CD for class. Every time it comes on in class I fight the urge to sing and dance, which usually doesn't happen. I don't know why I thought this was from Tarzan, but it's totally from Matilda. How could I be so wrong?

Elizabeth Taylor passed away this morning. On top of being an actress, businesswoman, and activist; Taylor was a beauty icon. She is widely known for her portrayal of Cleopatra, in the self-titled movie. The first film I saw her in was "The Taming of The Shrew." I remember thinking how gorgeous she was. I still have the same reaction when I see old photos of her. She lived a great life and left behind a great legacy. May she rest in peace. Take a look at some of her beauty moments after the jump.

I went down to New Orleans to visit a friend during Mardi Gras. I'll post pictures soon. Now I'm off to finish cleaning and catch up with TV that I missed. I thought only I could see it because I was logged in and they probably do that for everyone, right? Right??? So I called my sister immediately and she could see it too! Now, I think they do link a lot of people, but who cares? I'm one of them! I was so excited. One of my favorite, if not my favorite, blogs featured me ... kind of. How cool is that?

I am utterly, totally, completely IN LOVE with this father-daughter duo!!! I mean they just melt my heart. I cannot put into words how cute (and talented) they are. I can't handle it!

I kept thinking, "they need to be on Ellen. She would love them!" Turns out they were. How I missed that, I don't know. I only catch up on her twitter and youtube page, like, all the time. Let me tell you, Alexa on Ellen only made me love them even more.

I've actually been meaning to check out Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros for a while, but never got the push to do it. This acoustic cover was just the push I needed. I am a believer. Click here for the original.

Oh, and can we talk about his whistling? He's like a ventriloquist! Naturally, I spent an inordinate amount of time reading his story and finding their videos. I'm even considering supporting him by buying one of the shirts with Alexa's cute quote on it. Not to mention, I totally downloaded and favorite-ed the song on SoundCloud. I still really like this song. I had no idea who sang it until one day, while watching the "Secret Life of the American Teenager" preview (yes, I watch it. don't judge me!), I saw a clip of the video and spotted De'Mar on drums. It was then I figured out the song was by the Plain White T's. Clearly, I had no idea what they looked like. The only reason why I know who De'Mar is, and that he's in the band, is because I read his roommate's, Nicholas Scimeca, blog. Which is pretty awesome, just in case you were wondering. I'm going to admit, I was in like with Anne Hathaway's gown when I first saw her. I wasn't sure that it was best dressed worthy. But then she turned to the side, I got a peek of the deep plunging back and I plunged deep in love with her gown! I'm a sucker for an open-back dress and this Armani Prive killed it. The color was great. The sequins was great. I even loved the long sleeves with shoulder pads. As Rachel Zoe would say, Anne shut it down with this one. Now I wonder, how Ms. Zoe is going to top this at the Oscars with the many changes Hathaway will be making as host. Can't wait to see what she has in store!

Olivia Wilde looked stunning last night in a strapless, sequined tulle Marchesa gown. I'm not one for princess dresses, but I die for this one! If I ever did a princess dress, this Marchesa would be the only way to go. Marchesa is a red carpet favorite of mine. I don't think Marchesa has ever let me down and they certainly did not disappoint with this number.

Me and blogger have an on-again, off-again relationship. Last March, without warning, we broke up again. No warning. No discussion. Nothing. I just walked away, and quite honestly I'm not entirely sure what happened. Blogger has never really been bad to me, so it wasn't that. In fact, I checked out from the blogosphere period. It's been so long since I've checked some of my favorite blogs. Was it my questioning of switching platforms, my erratic schedule or just sheer laziness? I don't know. But what I do know is that after giving it some thought, I've decided to try and make the relationship work. Which brings us to now. I've made some New Year's Resolutions, such as resurrecting this blog, and I intend to keep them! I know we all say that, but I am serious. I want to hear from you all. If I start to slack off, tell me! I will do my best to fix this blog up and keep it fresh with posts. This is the start of a newer version of this blog in a new year!

Kid Cudi released the video for "Soundtrack 2 My Life," from his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, earlier this week. I don't have the cd and haven't heard it all, but people keep telling me it's kind of depressing. When I heard this song, I understood what they meant. Honestly, I have to say it's probably one of my favorite songs of his, including his mixtapes. I think there's something to be said about the honesty and raw emotion he puts into his music (and i'm not a "there's something to be said..." type of person). In my opinion, not a lot of rappers rap about their real feeling and how messed up they are. Cudi seems to lay it all out, drugs, neurosis, etc., in most of his songs. Let's face it, we're all a little messed up and have our own issues and it's refreshing to hear a rapper that puts it out there regardless of what the response will be. People have told me that I listen to weird music, I prefer the word eclectic, so that might be why I like him so much. Obviously i'm not alone.

Trailer Park Overload

So many trailers to post! Prepare for trailer overload. I might have to break this up into a couple posts.

First up, Who Do You Love (April 9)

Seem familiar? Maybe because it's the same story as Cadillac Records, with lesser known actors. I still haven't watched Cadillac Records straight through and I don't particularly plan on going out to watch this, but it should be interesting to see which version of the Leonard Chess story does better.

The Joneses (April 16)

I wasn't a fan of David Duchovny a la the X-files days, but ever since Hank Moody, a la Californication, came along I can't get enough of the man. His new movie, co-starring Demi Moore, takes "keeping up with the Joneses" to a whole new level. The Joneses are, literally, a live-action marketing and advertising scheme family created to drive up the sales of any and everything. I'm guessing things change for the perfect family when it gets a little too real and close for their unit leader mother, Moore. Of course, there's the blatant theme of marketing, capitalism, materialism, envy, and greed, but they had to fit a little love and romance in there.

The Switch (Aug. 20)

Jennifer Aniston hasn't really been catching me with her latest movies. The Bounty Hunter? I mean really, come on. I think the key to this one is Sebastian, her son. He's too cute! As a self-proclaimed, slight hypochondriac i find humor in his neurosis. Horrible? maybe, but entertaining nonetheless. (and frankly, what it was written for) Point being, he had me at "I think I have psychosiams disorder." The child is 7; I can't even spell that!

Eat, Pray, Love (Aug. 13)

Didn't read the book, but who doesn't need/love all of the things in the title? The message alone is enough to make me give it a second thought. It's true that a lot of people get so caught in being in a relationship their whole life that they've never been alone, don't know how to be, and don't even really know themselves. It is important to know what you want in life, love, etc. before you can really get it. It should be interesting to see the journey. Don't we all wish we could just quit our jobs and take at least a year to travel!

Get Him To The Greek (June 4)

The spin-off to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek, centers around Jonah Hill, who played the obsessed waiter in Marshall, trying to get Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) to his anniversary concert. What ensues on the trek from England to theatre is a chaotic adventure full of sex, drugs, and (of course) rock & roll. Aldous seems to have fallen off the wagon and out of the studio, a former addict both in character and in real life, which is probably why the concert is such a big deal. Hill plays the awkward and slightly inappropriate character well and Brand always makes me laugh with his witty dialogue. Diddy, Aziz Ansari, and man-child from children's hospital also make an appearance. Not going to lie, i'm pretty excited to see Infant Sorrow and Snow perform "Inside of You" again. It even made my top tv/film songs here.

Is it bad that I, secretly (not so secret anymore), want to see Repo Men and The Back-up Plan? Don't judge me. Although, I won't blame you if you do. Well, that wraps up Trailer Park overload part 1. More coming soon.

Volume Two

She & Him, indie-pop duo featuring Zooey Deschanel (She) and M. Ward (Him), release their sophomore album next week, aptly titled Volume Two. When I heard Deschanel sing 'Thieves' and 'Gonna Get Along Without You' live on BBC Radio 6 about a month ago, I was eager for the follow-up to Volume One to drop. She & Him have already started touring to promote their second album. Me and my sister, Sassy, were supposed to catch their NY show at Bowery for her birthday. Unfortunately, we didn't buy our tickets quick enough and they sold out within the week. I'm contemplating catching the next show closest to me: Bonaroo! How wicked would that be? For those of you, like me, who can't wait until next Tuesday, the album is available to preview at NPR First Listen. You can also download two tracks, two of my favorites, from the album, Thieves and In The Sun.

The duo premiered their first video for the single 'In The Sun' last week on Pitchfork. It stars M. Ward as the apathetic male, who does a wicked guitar solo at the end, and Deschanel as the bright-eyed girl leading a group of dancers around a high school following Ward's every move. It evokes a similar feeling to the re-release video for 'Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?' where Deschanel danced around in a bank with 500 Days co-star, Joseph Gordon Levitt. Both music videos were directed by the directors of a, somewhat recent, Deschanel film (Marc Webb/500 Days, Peyton Reed/Yes Man).

Miss Productivity

I complained a lot about the Mass Comm. Department at my school, but there was always one thing I did like. I really enjoyed working on media projects at night in the mass comm building. With classes during the day, specific lab hours, and a multitude of mass comm majors, students flocked to the first floor of Temple at night to work in the recording studio, editing room, and the mac lab. I pulled countless all-nighters working on radio wraps, TV packages and page layouts. The thing that made it so great was working with all the other students and witnessing the craziness that ensues when left unsupervised, and most likely sleep deprived, in a school building. The environment that erupted at night was a life, and world, all its own. My absolute favorite place and thing/memory was working on layouts in the mac lab and playing the most random collection of songs, mostly from the '80s I believe. But there was one song that got played just about every night, multiple times a night, and often caused a musical breakout in the entire lab. For some reason or another, I think this song actually did help us work. Now that my productivity level has dropped dangerously close to zero and I need to get some semblance of three commercials edited together by 7:30 tomorrow morning, I think fondly of those nights and call on the spirit-lifting powers of this amazing song.

That's right! Highway to the Danger Zone. Kenny Loggins. Top Gun. We sang along and loved every minute of it. I get nostalgic just playing the video. We probably threw in a little Top Gun Berlin in there too, along with some Cindy Lauper or Footloose. (honestly, this is the only song I can clearly remember because it was played so often) Multiple Pandora stations stopped at the first few seconds of this song. So, tonight this song will be played in memory of those productive Temple nights and hopefully restore my work levels to an all-time high.

Another favorite memory would have to be my friend Nicholas tripping over the camera and tripod and somehow managing to fall backwards in slow motion.

Life Aquatic

I can't help but to stare at houses when I drive by and wonder what they look like on the inside. I'm really into architecture and interior design; so whenever I see a building that catches my eye, it stays with me. (There's actually this modern barn house in my neighborhood right next door to the owners house that I'm dying to take a peek at, along with the cabin house around the corner) When I came across Wayne Coyne's, of The Flaming Lips, house I thought it was amazing. Compared to the gorgeous bathroom, the rest of the house is a mere shadow. My heart skipped 10 beats when I saw this serene, aquatic haven. I died and went to bathroom heaven. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bathroom! (No seriously, I could live in there. It is bigger than my room, but trust me, overall, it's an upgrade.) Everything from the colors to the tiles to the lounge area and the hanging fireplace is perfection!

I've always dreamed of building my own house and have been collecting inspiration for a while now. This is definitely at the top of my list for bathroom inspiration. Fitzsimmons Architects did a great job, with the close help of the home owners.

After getting my room mostly organized (I still have a little sorting to do), I feel that a little more decorating is in order. I still haven't hung up any of my photos or artwork. One thing I have always wanted to do is paint my room! I've never lived in a room with colored walls just boring varieties of off-white. Blah! Here's my inspiration.

I love this wall that Nicholas Scimeca, creative director of We Can't Stop Thinking, did in his apartment. I already have the perfect wall picked out, but I'm thinking of maybe a Beatles or Noisettes lyric. Still contemplating.

The wall decals in this room are done so perfectly! I also love the wall color.

Honeycomb Ceiling! Who thought of this??? I love it. I'm not sure how they put all the combs up, but it turned out amazing. I don't think this will work with my ceiling fan and it might be a bit much for me, but I'm making a note.

I've wanted a chalkboard wall for a while and the child-like urge to draw on my wall is returning. I actually am not a fan of the dusty, dry feeling chalk leaves on your hands after using it, but I love the old school feel. I would love a dry erase wall, so if anyone knows of a way to do one let me know!

Top 5 TV/Film Songs

5. Before bar singers, town troubadours, and The Lonely Island there was a local cafe singer. Phoebe Buffay, dare I call her the originator, made us all smile and laugh singing her way into the hearts of many Central Perk goers with unique 30 second songs. There was "Sticky Shoes," "Paper Mache Man" and "The Holiday Song," but above all there was "Smelly Cat."

4. Jason Segel's musical talents first surprised me with # 2 on this list, but his songs in Forgetting Sarah Marshall impressed me all the same. Maybe it's my love of vampires or maybe it's my love of musicals, but I thought this little Dracula gem was kind of genius. My favorite part is the end: "Die. Die. Die. I can't!"

3. Robin Scherbatsky, played by Cobie Smulders, has a past as a Canadian teen pop singer, Robin Sparkles. Her hit single, "Let's Go to the Mall", made me laugh with the outfits and dance moves, but I prefer "Sandcastles in the Sand." With James Van Der Beek (as Simon), Alan Thicke and Tiffany cameos, how could you not love it?

2. Thanksgiving is one week away and although it's not my favorite holiday, this How I Met Your Mother episode is my favorite holiday episode. Not that I'm condoning violence, but it makes me want to slap someone on Thanksgiving just to laugh and sing "You Just Got Slapped." I love the James Brown reference at the end of the music video. I can't wait for next weeks episode, "Revenge of the Slap."

1. Every girl would be flattered to have their musician boyfriend write them a song (except a mean/breakup song). But sometimes those songs are better when not shared with the whole family. Dylan, Haley Dunphy's boyfriend on Modern Family, obviously thought "In the Moonlight (Do Me)" was an appropriate song to perform in front of her entire family. I couldn't find a clip from the episode, "The Incident," which will re-air next Wed., so the music video will have to do. Catchy, hilarious and completely inappropriate, you kind of have to admit it's a little good... in a bad way.

Bonus: Who could forget Aldous Snow's, Russell Brand's character, "Inside of You"? I actually think this song is a little similar to "In the Moonlight (Do Me)." I think the writers used a little Russell Brand/Aldous Snow as inspiration for Dylan. I can see it. And of course, reality TV star/Skateboard Pro Rob Dyrdek's alter ego Bobby Light and "Dirty Girl," featuring The Chunky boys (a.k.a his bodyguard/best friend and their other friend).

It's Alive

I decided to resurrect the blog from a longer than expected hiatus to focus on finding a job hunting. Technically, I'm still on the hunt, but hopefully that'll end soon. While I was away I had the chance to waste a little too much time, think about what direction I'm taking my life, and come up with some projects to start and put into fruition within the year. I also had the time finally get myself somewhat organized from the last two times I moved into the new house (the first time we moved while I was in college and coming back after graduation), which meant a lot of purging. So You Think You Can Dance Finale

So You Think You Can Dance finale is today and tomorrow. It took me a little longer than usual to get into this season, but I'm excited to see who ends up the winner this season. They threw me off with some of their choices so I'm not sure who the winner will end up being. I was very disappointed when I saw one of my favorites [ok, possibly my FAVORITE] Kupono and Jason go. Especially because I thought that when Kupono left he gave one of the best, if not the best, solo that night. I was kind of happy yet surprised to Ade go home last week. I actually thought Evan would be the one to go. Although I think he's good and I love his solos I wasn't sure if America would give him the chance. I think Evan is a little of a wild card. My bet is that Jeanine will before Kayla. Kayla has a good chance of being in the top 2, however, Brandon might dominate them all. He gave possibly the best solo last week, getting a standing ovation from even the judges. I think that he may be the winner, but my judgment has been off [not wrong, but off] this season. I guess I'll just have to tune in tonight to see what happens.

The service they had for Michael Jackson yesterday was really nice and well put together. There were a lot of touching moments. Some of the ones that I liked the best were Marlon's story of seeing Michael in a record store, Jermaine singing "Smile" and Smokey Robinson. There were others, but those might be my top choices. I also think they had really nice song selections that were very appropriate.

While on YouTube I found a special that Jackson did on Fox a while back that I thought was interested. He showed home videos and did commentary. His "Private Home Videos" really showed who he was and gave a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of some of his short films, as he liked to call them.

Freaks & Geeks

I've been on a Freaks and Geeks marathon this week. Why is it that the best shows only last about a season? My So Called Life...another prime example. If you're not familiar with the show, get familiar. You already are with most of it's stars. Best part is that you can catch the entire season/series on youtube! Once you start, you won't stop. I believe this is his second video following up Replacement Girl from a previous mixtape. His album is set to be released later this year. The date hasn't been set yet.

I agree with Big Homie, this video should be renamed "Breast I Ever Had." All in all, I thought it was hilarious.

Reading Rainbow

I decided that I don't read enough and that's not a good thing. So, in efforts to break one of my many bad habits, I'm making a vow to do some summer reading. I've created a reading list (a work in progress) and have already (almost, 50 pgs left) made it through my first book, 13 Reasons Why.
The book tells the story of Hannah Baker, a girl who just committed suicide, and the thirteen people that influenced/caused it. Hannah sends a box of cassette tapes, telling each persons story, sending the thirteen influencers through a twisted maze of memories and consequential actions.

To get a preview of the book check out this blog. It features snippets of the cassettes sent out and some photos that go along with the stories.

I'm trying to decide which book on my list is next. Dear Diary by Lesley Arfin, Editor-In-Chief of Missbehave, or Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman. Although I have been thinking about reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult so I can read it before I see the movie (which comes out June 26). Out of the three which would you recommend?

The Princess Mentality?

A Response to The Trouble With Disney's Princess Tiana

There has been a little controversy over the new Disney movie coming out later this year, The Princess and the Frog. It's the first Disney movie to feature a black princess. Much of the controversy I've read has been over her "prince" who is not a black but instead a racially unidentifiable tan man named Naveen. However, this isn't the problem writer and mother of two, Monique Fields, has with the movie.

Fields doesn't see this as a milestone or good that her daughters see someone of their race as a Disney princess, but instead feels that the movie is just perpetuating the "princess mentality." In The Root, she writes:

Disney and other toymakers are selling a fantasy, pure and simple. What is troubling is when fantasy mingles with reality. Some little girls are telling anyone who will listen that they want to be princesses when they grow up. If nothing else, I expect a more ambitious and attainable goal from children who haven’t yet learned to read or write. Their goals don’t have to be engraved in their scrapbooks, but thoughts of becoming lawyers, doctors or entrepreneurs is a start.

A princess? Whatever in the world do princesses do? More importantly, how do they get paid? Real life is not a fairy tale, and few folks live happily ever after. So just what are we telling our girls when we dress them up in frilly dresses, dust them with makeup and put glitter in their hair before they really know who they are? We’re telling them outward beauty is more valuable than being responsible, trustworthy citizens who don’t always get what they want. If we aren’t clear what’s acceptable now, we’re setting them up for a time in the not-too-distant future when they want something they can’t have and have no way of dealing with rejection.

Reading this article, I was taken aback. Fields is taking the whole princess thing a little too far. These are children (hers are 4 and 2). They don't need to be planning out their future, worrying about bills and studying for the LSATs! Kids are meant to be carefree. Most children grow out of that phase and don't plan to be the same thing they did at 2. Who cares if they like sparkly things, pink and tutus?

It seems to me that Fields is taking the influence of Disney movies too seriously. Disney isn't raising your child, you are! If anything/anyone has a say on what type of mentality your children grow up with, it's the parents not some two hour long Disney movie. That's what parents do, bring their children up and teach them the reality of things and how they should act as a person. Fields should take this as an opportunity to teach her daughters. Show them what she thinks a princess is, not what the stereotypical, commercial qualities are. This is the time to tell them that princesses have responsibilities, they give back to their community, they work hard, they have jobs, etc. Tell them that if they want nice things they have to work for it and that nice things aren't everything. This is an advantage not a disadvantage.

Fields, in my point of view, has also missed the message of many Disney films. She should definitely be proud that her daughters see a beautiful black woman on the screen. Disney films do not say that outward beauty is what's important, emphasize a lack of responsibility or that everyday people can't have a happy ending. If this is what she's getting, I wonder what movies she's been watching. Maybe she's the one who isn't looking past the external.

Countless Disney films have sent the opposite message. Beauty and the Beast was saying to be kind, don't judge someone by how they look but by who they are. The person on the inside, who they are, is what's beautiful. Cinderella worked hard and despite of her circumstances became a princess. Mulan took a risk to help her father and family and ended up saving her country, China, and getting the man. Aladdin was homeless and married Jasmine. Simba grew up, took responsibility and saved his pride and the land. These examples if anything perpetuate what's good, in people and in general.

I can't pass judgment on the content, especially that of racial concern, until I see the movie. But can say I have no problem taking my cousins and godson to see it.

(that's what my gchat says when it returns from temporarily losing signal) I've been m.i.a for a few months and I would like to apologize. My computer is dead and I am hoping it can be fixed opposed to buying a new one. Until then I am subjected to finding a computer at the library (which is like a weird game of musical chairs) or asking a friend or sibling to use theirs. Quick updates: Spring break! Woot woot! glad to not be in school for a bit. NY, NY! came to visit and am currently late to take the long trip into the city. Many posts just waiting to posted. I've made it painfully clear to everyone that crosses my path how OBSESSED I am with Blackberry phones [[even though I've never had one]]. Well, my parents caught on, that and I put it on my wishlist [[see sometimes you do get what you wish for]], and were nice enough to grant me BB status for Christmas and my B-day. Ok, it was either that or the graduation trip I have been bugging them about for the past few months. Seeing as how the new Blackberry 8900 was only available in Rogers [[Canada]], who won't unlock the phone for me, I scowered the blogs to find out when T-Mobile would be graced with its presence. Finally...Feb. 11th is the big day! You can only imagine my excitement. I am truly in love. It's sad, I get butterflies just thinking about it. I'm tired of using my old phone from high school. Only 22 days to go...
