I haven't had as much time to update my blog as I expected. I promise I'll try to do better. Until then I'll give you a quick update of the last few weekends. I went to Williamsburg a few weeks ago, with my sister and some, friends to check out the Renegade Craft Fair. We were there for all of five minutes when the clouds opened up releasing a downpour of rain. We were stuck in the rain for about an hour with only our umbrellas as shelter. Needless to say, it was not the outing we hoped for and was not fun. One good thing did come out of the trip: Vinnie's Pizzeria. I stopped there on the way back home to get a quick slice. The pizza was really good. If you ever get the chance, stop by Vinnie's. The next weekend I went to P.S. 1, an art gallery in Queens, for an opening. Here are a few of the pieces that caught my attention. This piece doesn't really look like this, it was an image effect. This piece was nickels with matches glued to them. I can't remember how many there were, it was somewhere in the thousands.
...it's not what good girls do, but then again Katy Perry's one of the boys. [[or at least that's the title of her debut album]] I can't get the song out of my head. I should admit I've never kissed a girl [[and don't intend to]], but I do like the song. Check it out
Perry's CD was released this past Tuesday. You can get her CD in a store near you or on itunes. Check out Perry's myspace to listen to more of her songs or check her out on her blog.
The CW has three [[well, two kind of]] new shows premiering this fall, Stylista, 90210 [[the remake?]], and Surviving The Filthy Rich.
Stylista Stylista is a reality show, brought to you by Tyra Banks, following 11 "assistants" to Elle's Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey. Like any other reality competition, the show eliminates one assistant per week until one hopeful wins a real job at Elle. The show seems really scripted and too much like a wannabe The Devil Wears Prada. The similarities come into play when Slowey enters the office and immediately throws her jacket and purse onto the receptionist's desk and later when she evaluates each competitors outfit and breakfast tray.[[you'll understand when you see the show or preview]] The grand prize does seem quite nice. The winner of the competition gets a paid editorial position [[at ELLE, of course]], a paid lease on a great apartment in Manhattan, and a clothing allowance at H&M. However, this is only guaranteed for one year...I wonder if ELLE will choose to keep their new addition after the year contract. Despite how fake the show seems, I'm not going to lie, I'll still tune in to see how crazy the assignments will be. Check out the preview below.
My favorite part is when the British guy [[i think he's British]] goes "I'm not really a backstabber in an evil way!" [[too funny]] Besides having to plan Slowey's niece a birthday party and creating the perfect breakfast for her, i'm eager to see what else they have planned from the show.
90210 Ok...I used to watch the original and I have to say I'm a bit worried. I have no idea where they are planning to take the show. There are a few familiar faces in the cast. Lori Loughlin [[Full House]], Shenea Grimes [[Degrassi: The Next Generation]], AnnaLynn McCord [[Nip/Tuck]], Jessica Walter [[Arrested Development]], Tristan Wilds [[The Wire]], and Ryan Eggold [[Dirt]] are all a part of the cast. Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, and Rob Estes, from the original Beverly Hills: 90210 and Melrose Place[[the "spinoff"]], are also said to participate in the show. They've only taped a pilot so we'll see if the network picks up the show. Check out a glimpse of the show below.
I find the storyline of a small town family moving to a big California city [[if you count Beverly Hills to be a city]] and said family having an adopted black son to be very similar to The N's South of Nowhere. [[I know, I know...The N is kind of a guilty pleasure, don't judge me!]]
Surviving The Filthy Rich There hasn't been much buzz surrounding this show...but who knows it could end up to be an underdog. The show is centered around a hopeful journalist who becomes the tutor of two orphaned [[well they still have their grandmother]] twin girls, who are filthy rich. The main character is played by JoAnna Garcia, who played Cheyenne on Reba. I liked Reba, so I'm willing to give Filthy Rich a chance. Check out a clip of the show below.
One of my favorite summer TV shows and dance competition shows, So You Think You Can Dance, is back. They start the competition with the top 20 dancers of this season tonight. I can't wait! Tune in tonight at 8 p.m.
Speaking of Wilson Cruz [[in my last post, well not speaking of, video of]] here's a trailer of a new movie set to be released Oct. 24. I don't think he plays a big part in the movie but it's good to see him on the big screen. He's Just Not That Into You is a star studded movie that includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Connolly, Justin Long and the aforementioned Wilson Cruz. The movie's based on the best seller book, of the same name, by Greg Behrendt. Enjoy...
...or should I say Dirt. BuzzSugar reported earlier this week that one of my favorite shows from this past season has just been canceled [[much to my dismay]]! Dirt will not be returning to FX for it's third season. Needless to say, I am very saddened by this news. Just when I picked up the show it gets dropped. What's with all the good shows getting canceled? Well, Dirt will forever live in my memory and in my dvd collection [[as soon as I buy it]].
In honor of shows that die prematurely, here's a scene from one of my favorite shows...
First...that car spin/trick thing was sick!!! I get more and more interested in this movie everytime I see the trailer. [[I think it's the car thing]] I am looking forward to seeing how James McAvoy [[whom I LOVE!]] will do in this movie. It's unlike any other role I've seen him in [[and I liked pretty much everything i've seen]], which is not the case for Angelie Jolie. Quite frankly, I hope to see more variation in the roles Jolie gets and picks in the future. Hopefully, we'll see some more performances like her characters in A Mighty Heart, Gia, and Girl, Interrupted. The movie comes out June 27.
And as an added bonus I decided to throw in another trailer...
This movie isn't new. It actually came out in 2001, but I just found out about it. It looks like a really good movie; real, raw, and emotional. Ryan Gosling is an amazing actor and from the trailer it seems like he gave a great performance. From what I understand it's based on a true story too. If you've seen it let me know what you think...if not I'll report back after I see it.
Renowned designer and fashion icon, Yves Saint Laurent died yesterday, June 1. Saint Laurent was 71.
WWD reports: "Yves Saint Laurent, one of the greatest designers of the 20th century, died at his home in Paris on Sunday after a long illness. For more than 40 years, Saint Laurent captivated the world of fashion and beyond with an extraordinary repertoire marked by his unique color sense, provocative androgyny and passion for fantasy--as well as with his shyness, eccentricity and renowned frailty."
As some of you may know I was in search of internship for a while. Well...after months of sending out resumes and calling around I was lucky enough to land an interview with Flaunt magazine. And my luck didn't stop there, I got the internship. [[I think someone upstairs was listening to my prayers]] Because of said job I am relocating to NY!!! [[OK...temporarily relocating for the summer]] Which means, my loves, that I will be writing to you from the great city of New York. I will make sure to keep you updated on my adventures and all things fabulous. I am happy to say today was my first day and I really enjoyed it. The people seem really nice and down to earth. All in all, I look forward to what looks like a great summer!
